MORGAN, DALE L. (ed.). The Overland Diary of James A. Pritchard from Kentucky to California in 1849. Denver: The Old West Publishing Co., 1959. 221pp. Frontis piece. Illustrated. Original red cloth boards with vignette display. Title in gilt on spine. Untrimmed. Lacking dust jacket. Folding chart in pocket on inside of rear board. Near fine.
First edition. A rather interesting diary as Pritchard was one of the earliest diarists to reach California overland in 1849. Morgan's fine Introduction, editing and notes that make this volume an important study of the overland migration through South Pass that year. This is one of the most significant books on the overland route to California ever published.
